The Pastor's Heart

When Jesus died and resurrected, he ensured that we, through the work of the cross can overcome anything that is thrown at us by the enemy. Satan’s work that is specifically designed to delay us from our destiny and frustrate us, was defeated, and nailed to the cross. Colossians 2:15 says, “And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.”

Because of what Jesus did, we are legally considered an overcomer. In fact, He says we are more than conquers through Christ.

Now, there is a disparity between this legal standing, that we can all lay a claim on, and the reality on the ground. Many believers are still, after the confession of Jesus, and His salvation still living in defeat. Some because of the circumstances of life and some because of the cuffs and chains of sin that seem to have them shackled.

The enemy has managed to convince us of the enormity of our circumstances, and struggles, lied to us about the false power that he has over our lives. he has managed to reduce the work of Christ on the cross to a minute historical fact that has no bearing to todays moment.

Here is the truth that will set you and me free. Read this out loud.

  • Jesus work on the cross back then, is still impactful for me today!

  • Satan is disarmed, He is a toothless aggressor, he can’t do anything in me or on me.

Jesus is bigger than I think.

When you are at war, there is nothing more precious than having a tactical advantage against your enemy. God knows this. When they were entering the promised land, God identifies for the children of Israel some of the hot spots, these spots, He says to them, will be very critical if you will succeed in conquering your enemies.

One notable thing that the Lord speaks to them about, is the destruction of their places of worship as well as their way of worship. God knows that as long as there is an illusion of a source, even if it was just that, the people of God would have to suffer longer.

In Deuteronomy 12:2-3 He says, “Ye shall utterly destroy all the places, wherein the nations which ye shall possess served their gods, upon the high mountains, and upon the hills, and under every green tree: And ye shall overthrow their altars, and break their pillars, and burn their groves with fire; and ye shall hew down the graven images of their gods, and destroy the names of them out of that place.

Destroying the alters of the enemy renders them hopeless and vulnerable and therefore a tactical advantage for the children of God. It still remains as such for us in spiritual warfare. We must destroy the alters of worship that the enemy has in place. Starting with the alters in our personal lives, all alters whose name is not the name of the Lord

In Psalms 144:1,the bible says, Blessed be the LORD my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight: If we are in a classroom to learn how to war, then we better be prepared because the lessons are often eventually followed by a test. Essentially, we are not taught to war, so that we sit back and relax, we are taught because more than likely, there is a war to be fought. The reason that the Lord would teach us to war, is because at some point, the learned skills must be tested.

Now, to be able to succeed at war, you have to build confidence in the teachings from the Master and also to believe that you have the capacity within you to exercise these skills. If we do not know the capacity or the reasons behind the capacity, self-doubt at the time of the test can be critical and lead to a catastrophic failure. Paul prays for us, in Ephesians 1:18 that our eyes may be open to understand the weight of what we have received.

When Jesus died on the cross, our sin was taken care of. Now, sin is what hinders the Lord from moving on our behalf, (Isaiah 59:1-2). With the only hinderance taken care of, we can have confidence in battle, that He is on our side. If God be for us, who can be against us(Rom 8:31) He also, at His death and resurrection gave us a glorious inheritance, a positioning and son hood, He is the head; we are the body and therefore, far above all opposition. Because of what Jesus did, we do not have to fight for victory, we fight from Victory.

We can rest assured; in Him, we have the victory.

As Prophet Isaiah says, “See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples,” then, the only hope that we have for this world is if we can let the light that shines in us bring brightness to this world. Our light has come, however, the capacity for this light to effect change or impact anything around us rests on our decision to arise and shine. Jesus says, “No one lights a lamp and puts it in a place where it will be hidden, or under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, so that those who come in may see the light. If it is true that our light has come, let us therefore shine bright for this world we are living in.

The positioning of the lamb matters. In this dark world, every persuasion there is, is to allow us to hide the light further and deeper. The enemy has schemed and made Christianity a thing to be ashamed of. Saying you are a Christian has become an invitation to be judged for being judgmental. This has caused many Christians to desire to hide their lambs. We are called to be the light of the world; the role of the light is naturally to identify and cast out darkness. Do not feel bad when your light makes people who enjoy darkness uncomfortable. You can’t help it. Just position your lamb right.

Jesus has made us the light, let us honor Him by making our light visible. This dark world might not know it yet, but they need the light. Sometimes you don’t know what you want until it confronts you. Hiding our light from this dark world, is doing an injustice LIGHT is so desperately needed.

Be the light
